Knitting Project: My First Hat

Pattern: Sloucher
Yarn: Noro Silk Garden

I’m not totally happy with it. Mainly because of yarn choice. Noro doesn’t have a uniform thickness, and my gauge was off. So next time, I’ll get a true aran weight yarn like the pattern calls for. Or even go for a bulky yarn.

I love that the brim stands on its own! No plastic insert.

I don’t like that you can see the seed stitch facing. Which I think my gauge is partly to blame.

Dries Van Noten Maxi Jumper

642 euros

Seriously? For a plain stockinette stitch sweater that looks like it was made by a newbie knitter (i.e. me several months ago), who has no clue about proper gauge and how it affects size?

Even more baffling is it’s sold out.

It’s amusing though reading the fawning comments for this on the Jak & Jil blog.

Knitting Project: Another Circle Scarf

In the picture, the scarf is long enough to wrap around my neck three times.

My first time using Malabrigo. Now I know what everyone’s raving about. It is pure pleasure knitting with this yarn. Which made knitting this scarf go quickly.

I also liked the colour changes.

knitting Project: Summer Storm

knsummerstorm03

Pattern: Summer Storm (free on Ravelry)
Yarn: Cascade 220 Heathers (100% merino wool)

First sweater! Overall, I’m pleased. I’m not sure I did the short rows right. The way it was written in the pattern didn’t make sense to me.

If I had to do it over, I’d make it shorter. And I wouldn’t bother with the waist shaping. Or make it more pronounced. I went through the (minor) trouble of doing it and you can’t even tell!

It looks better tucked under.

Sweater Teaser

knsummerstorm02

It’s done!

But I want to give it a quick wash first. So you’ll just have to wait for a full shot.
